As I'm walking through the store today, I was stopped by a man who asked to see a manager. The other employee who was walking with me, asked him what he needed before I got a chance to, so the customer said to him: " I'm trying to find out if there's a Notary Republic available." My cohort directed him to the back of the store to find a manager, while I bit my tongue in order to keep from laughing in his face, or generally saying something that would make him feel like an idot.
Dictionary.com says that a Notary is:
It also says that a Republic is:
1. A political order whose head of state is not a monarch and in modern times is usually a president.
2. A nation that has such a political order.
I'm starting to think that there's no such thing as a "Notary Republic". I hope someone corrects him on this. I couldn't, because I just know I'd have been a wiseass in the process. I guess good customer service can sometimes be defined as: knowing when to keep your gob shut.
Posted by Johnny - Oh at September 17, 2004 08:09 PMAt least he didn't ask for a Notarized Republican. :)
I spend a lot of time cartooning off of things people say, usually just to myself, but sometimes it's impossible to keep from busting out laughing! Someone like this guy? I think my tongue would have been bleeding!
Posted by: That 1 Guy at September 18, 2004 03:52 AMThis reminds me of the girl who wanted there to be an Anarchy Party so she could vote for them.
Posted by: Sally at September 18, 2004 10:06 AMSally - so... would the Anarchy Party candidate be running for the presidency of the Notary Republic?
... I'm REALLY confused :-P

"Notary Republic" is indeed a term also used to describe a "Notary Public" or "Notary." Punch it in a search engine and see. It may sound funny, but it is an accepted term for this position.
YOU are the one that more educated people are laughing at. Thanks for the laugh.
